When To Give Heartwormers
There are many options when it comes to heartworm treatments. We have Heartgard Plus for Dogs as well as any number of other options like Nuheart, Revolution and many more.
Although most people do use a form of cheap Heartgard Plus many are still unsure just how often they should be giving it to their pets. The heartworm society of America recommends that it is given every month of the year, and for some people this should be the case. We should do this if we live in a warm area where there are mosquitoes present every month of the year. This is how our pets become infected so this is what we need to look out for.
But, if we live in a climate where it is cold in winter and we get low temperatures then there are not mosquitoes present. Then we should not really need to give every month. But we should always ensure that we do give it for the warmer months and this means any month where we get mosquitoes, or they are likely to appear.
We should also ensure that we give it for at least one month before the main season and also for one month after the season as well. This will dramatically cut down on the number of infections and it should ensure the chances of our pets becoming infected is extremely low. This is now how most people give a heartworm medicine to their pets and if there is any chance at all of an infected mosquito biting your pet then you should ensure that they are treated for that month.
With heartworms still a big problem in many areas it is always worth checking to ensure that you are using the treatment for a long enough period of time to ensure there is no danger to your pet.
