What to Look for When Buying a Dog Life Jacket

If you are looking for a life jacket for your dog, be sure to purchase one that will take care of and protect your dog.

You have many choices when it comes to life jackets for your dog, but the most important thing is to ensure that the jacket fits your chosen animal. If you choose a dog life jacket that is too big for your dog, he / she can slip out of it, or worse, become entangled in it whilst swimming in the water.

There are many models of dog life jackets and some are cute and fashionable, and you may like the look of some of them, but you should be more interested in the welfare of the dog and its ability to protect rather than how it looks. Choosing a jacket that fits your dog is vital, but your friend must also be easy to see when they swim in it.

In general, it is preferable to choose a life jacket that has a smaller mesh size which can breathe, because this will promote drying of the life jacket. In cold water, however, a jacket of neoprene may be the best choice because the usual disadvantage of neoprene is that you can exhaust your pet with heat, which in cold water, can help to keep him or her warm.

Emergencies can happen even when you’re very diligent, so be sure to choose a dog life jacket with a top handle that lets you quickly recover your dog. Quick release buckles and velcro are very advantageous to the dog’s life jacket, because you’ll be able to remove it quickly.

If you and your best friend regularly walk along the sea, lake, pool or go on a boat, knowing he is safe in his jacket will not only allow you to have fun without constantly worrying about your dog and his actions, but also allow him to have a little more fun and enjoy the action.
