Teach Your Dog To Catch A Frisbee

For most of my childhood, I dreamed of having one of those cool, frisbee-catching dogs.  I repeatedly tried (and failed) to get my pup to understand that he was supposed to catch the frisbee and not eat the frisbee.  Now I know that I was going about it all wrong!

To teach your dog to catch a frisbee, start off with a tennis ball.

  1. Throw a tennis ball and have your dog fetch it.  Each time he successfully brings it back to you, give him either praise or a treat.
  2. Next, throw the ball in the air.  Chances are your dog will naturally try to catch it before it hits the ground.  Continue practicing until your dog becomes good at both catching the ball mid-air and returning it.
  3. Try it with the frisbee!
