Some Examples of Practical Clothes For Dogs
The phrase “clothes for dogs” may cause a person to picture a pampered Poodle dressed in a sweater or a Pug wearing a designer scarf. However, clothing on a dog can do more than make a cute pet even more adorable. Clothing can protect a dog from things in the animal’s environment which can be harmful. It can also make it easier for some people to be around a dog at all.
If a dog works or plays in a rural area which has rocky terrain, it might be necessary for the animal to wear boots. Sharp rocks can cut a dog’s paws causing injury and pain. Dogs that live in places with high daytime temperatures may also need to wear boots to protect their feet from hot pavement. After the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001 people were asked to donate boots for the dogs used to search through the debris of the towers so that the feet of the animals could be protected from the twisted metal and other material they encountered.
Just as with humans, a dog wearing a rain coat can be kept dry and warm. Disabled people who rely on their service dogs for assistance find this very helpful. Since a service dog goes everywhere with the handler the person doesn’t have to worry about the animal brushing a wet body against another person.
A heavier coat might be necessary for dogs that live in a very cold climate. Boxers, for example, have very little fur and might need to wear a coat to keep warm.
There are also body suits for dogs who spend time riding in cars. The body suit prevents dog hair from shedding on to the seat or floor of the car. People with allergies to dog hair or dander may also find it easier to be around a dog since the body suit prevents hair or dander from floating throughout a room.
