Does Your Aging Pet Need An Orthopedic Dog Bed?

It is not only humans who need special attention when they are getting older. Aging dogs need special treatment also and this might be in the form of an orthopedic bed.

As dogs age, they become more and more inactive resulting to being more prone to arthritis, joint problems, and bone fractures. These disorders may also be due to pollution and lack of proper nutrition. If you notice that, your active dog is now having trouble with his or her movements such as slowing of pace, disturbed tempo or even unwillingness to move then it is the right time to buy your pet an orthopedic bed.

An orthopedic dog bed evenly balances the weight distribution of your dog every time he or she lies down to rest or to sleep. This will help prevent or ease the pain of occurring joint problems that comes with aging. This type of bed looks like the same as that of an ordinary dog bed. The difference is that it is much closer to the ground. This way, the dog can go in and out of the bed with much more comfort. It also has double-sided ortho-foam made from a very comfortable material.

The best quality orthopedic dog bed is stain and odor resistant, machine washable and prevents the buildup of viruses, parasites, bacteria, dust mites, allergens, and insects. It should be made up of lightweight materials so it is not too heavy to lift.

If you want an orthopedic dog bed that will not hurt your budget, try the one that is manufactured from three-inch egg crate. It is most affordable but it will not provide optimum comfort for your beloved pet.  To find them at all price points, check out Amazon.com.  They carry a large assortment and the shipping is usually free.

  1. My family had a Jack Russell Terrier that was hit by a car the day before his first birthday which broke his pelvis. Other than that he walked away perfectly fine and once it healed, he didn’t really have any problem.

However, later in life (around the age of 10) he developed arthritis in his back end as a result of his broken pelvis so we purchased an orthopedic dog bed. It was great. He could sleep and lounge comfortably and he didn’t have as much trouble getting up after a nap. I definitely recommend it for anyone that has a dog with arthritis.
