Spotlight On Miniature Dogs
What is all the hype with miniature dogs these days? Everywhere you go, you see them. In purses, in pet shops, on dainty little leashes. What’s the big deal with these toy-sized pups? Everybody loves dogs, let’s face it, but not everybody loves the huge breeds like bulldogs, boxers, german shepherds, golden retrievers. They like to have a miniature dog that can be carried around with them wherever they go, and also curl up next to them at night without hogging the whole bed! I know for a fact that big dogs take up way too much room, and it is next to impossible to move them! Little dogs are all too happy to get up and move for you!
What are some miniature dog breeds?
There are all types of miniature dog breeds, ranging from poodles, pekingese, chihuahuas, even miniature doberman pinschers and greyhound racing dogs! The last two of the miniature dog breeds have incredible energy and tenacity, and are ready to go at all hours of the day. Make sure before you purchase one of those two breeds that you are ready to walk the energy out of your dog. It is a must. The others, like poodles, and pekingese are decent children’s dogs, because they are a little more hefty than say, a chihuahua. The chihuahuas easily end up with broken legs because of kids stepping on them (I did that to my sister’s baby when I was 6-Sorry, Nel!). It happens all too often where they get to playing too rough, and end up hurting the small bugger. It is something you have to be careful of if you have kids and smaller dogs.
Where can I find miniature dogs for sale?
There are all types of places to find miniature dogs for sale. You could begin by searching online, and going from there. You will get to see all types of galleries, get the breeder information, along with figuring out exactly where your dog came from, and why it was bred the way it was. Make sure that the breeder you select is reputable, and that you can look at the facilities for yourself, to ensure the animals are properly cared for. Most online kennels will have pictures of their facilities for you to view. Some will also have a live video camera that you can use to look in and see what is going on with your favorite pooches.
What about these miniature boxer dogs I have seen around?
These miniature boxer dogs are just that. A miniature version of everyone’s favorite breed, the boxer. These smaller versions look just like their bigger cousins, and have just as much energy and love to give out. You are going to have to make sure that you are walking them enough though, because being from the bully family, they are going to get built up energy inside of them, and if it isn’t released, they end up taking it out on something. Usually the legs to your kitchen table. You can easily just pick up a tennis ball, and teach them how to fetch it, once they have gotten that part down, and are good off of a leash, you can take them to the park for a play date with the other pups.
Getting the boxer breeds out into the open with other dogs will increase their ability to interact with other animals, without getting the small dog syndrome. You know what I mean. When was the last time you saw a chihuahua trying to rip your legs off? It happens all the time. The little dog thinks he’s a rottwieler and has to act like it. If only they knew they were a miniature dog, and not some 100lb beast!
Owning one of the miniature dog breeds has a lot of advantages, but like most things, choosing a dog for your family is mostly a matter of preference. All dog’s are going to give you love, regardless of size. You can’t judge a dog’s heart by the size of his body!
