Labrador Training: 3 Useful Tips To Follow

It is often said that Labrador retrievers possess great loyalty to their owners. Despite that admirable trait the breed can also have a destructive side. The good news is that destructiveness can be controlled through Labrador puppy training. The idea of Labrador training may seem daunting task, but as time is devoted to the activity there will be good results. Labradors are very intelligent dogs and through training come to respect their owners and listen to their commands. Most Labradors become happily obedient dogs with careful training.

Before starting to train any puppy, especially a Labrador, there are some useful dog training tips you can follow. Because you want to be successful in training your Labrador pup, are three useful training tips listed below you can follow to teach your puppy good behavior.

1. Training should begin immediately when you take the puppy home. Teaching the puppy proper behavior lets him know how you want him to behave. Training also establishes your authority as the “boss.” Dogs instinctively have a sense of social order and once you establish yourself at the top, the dog will give you respect.

2. Do training on a schedule. Record the times you take your Labrador out for housebreaking sessions. Also keep track of the amount of food given and how often and when the puppy is walked and engaged in play sessions. Do the activities on the schedule at the same times so you can arrive at a training schedule to which your puppy will become accustomed.

3. Be careful of how much exercise you give your Labrador. While he is still a puppy, exercise must be limited to only about 15 minutes daily. Remember he is still a baby and bones and joints are not fully developed. Too much stress on his body at this point will mean he may have serious health problems as an older dog.

Most of all, keep in mind that training Labrador puppies, or any puppy, requires patience, effort and time. But by taking the proper care, your dog will be an obedient and well behaved companion.
