Guard Dogs are Great for Home Security

Home security unfortunately is always important due to there being people in the world who think that burglary and other home related crime is fair on the owners or occupiers. There are many devices available on the market such as burglar alarms and home surveillance systems but nothing in my opinion is as good as a guard dog.

Guard dogs have been used for many years to deter would be burglars from breaking into property and the thought of getting bitten by one is enough to keep these thieves away from your property. The volume of their bark also works like a loudspeaker announcing the presence of an unwanted person in a property.

When you get a guard dog it is very important to train him to welcome people that you want in your home and not attack everyone they see, save it only for the bad guys. Friends and family do not want to be put off making a visit to your house on account of the dog being too over hyped and vicious all the time.

Many guard dogs reside outside in the yard or back garden but more often than not the dog is part of the family and is welcomed in side to the warmth.

Whether your dog is an indoor or outside residing animal, they will need a permanent sleeping place and a large dog cage is ideal for this. Whether they live outside or in, it is important to keep a fresh supply of food and water available for your dog at all times, especially if you live in a hot climate where dehydration can occur easily, especially for a big dog with a thick coat.

You should make sure that the garden area in which you want your dog to be dominant is well fenced so that he can not escape and also to keep those wood be thieves even more at arms length.

If you have never owned a dog before then you should try and do a lot of reading around the subject as they require a lot of looking after and different breeds have very different characteristics. The ideal dog for guarding your property would be a retired Police dog, something like a German Shepherd or Alsatian. Dogs like Dobermans and Pit Bull Terriers have a fear factor associated with them but some people think they are not safe and this is important if you have children, who are especially vunerable to dog attack, in your family.
