3 Flea Treatment Recipes To Try Today

Thankfully, summer’s almost gone and with it most of our flea woes. However, if your dog’s still scratching and your kids are itchy, here’s a few quick flea treatment ideas that you need to try. They’re safe, effective, inexpensive and you probably already have the ingredients on hand.

There’s plenty of benefits to making your own natural flea treatment:

  • You’re going to keep your kids and pets safe by not bringing extra chemicals into the house.
  • You’re going to help the environment by making green products.
  • You’re gonna’ save a TON of money

DIY Flea Spray

Ingredients:

1 cup white vinegar (vinegar repels fleas)
1 cup water

Directions:

Mix the vinegar and water together and then put the concoction in one of those empty spray bottles that you can buy at any local dollar store. Keep in mind that the reason I say to buy one is that I don’t want you to reuse a spray bottle that you have laying around. Chances are the bottle held chemicals and folks, we want to keep this safe for your pooch.

Spray your dog down with the solution and work it through his coat using your fingers.

Repeat this process every other day.

Homemade Flea Shampoo

Ingredients:

20 sprigs of mint (fleas hate it)
1 c. water
2 tsp. vanilla extract (soothes)
½ cup baby shampoo

Directions

Put the mint and water in a saucepan

Bring to a boil.

Add vanilla extract and turn off the burner.

Once cool, stir in the baby shampoo.

Remove the mint leaves and wash your dog.

Note: For maximum effectiveness, let the shampoo sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing.

Vegetable oil cooking spray — Garlic Flavor

Please note that it’s RAW garlic and onions that have been linked to hemolytic anemia in dogs. Both garlic powder and cooked garlic in these quanities have not been shown to be toxic. By the way, it’s the garlic in this recipe that provides the flea-fighting power!
