Dog Training Tip- Don’t Give A Command More Than Once

There are a couple of basic rules that you should always follow when it comes to commands.  Here are a few dog training tips to help you on your way:

1.  Never give your dog a command that you are not prepared to enforce.

You certainly don’t want to accidentally teach your dog that commands are optional!

2.  Don’t Repeat The Command.

1 Command=1 Response from your dog

By repeating the command, you are teaching the dog that praise and rewards will come no matter when he chooses to obey you.

For example, saying, “Sit! Sit? Sit, sit, sit…”  will never be an effective way to teach your dog.  Instead, firmly say, “Sit.”  If your dog chooses not to, then nudge his butt into a seated position and then reward him.  He’ll get the hang of what you’re asking soon enough.
