Does Your Dog Refuse To Walk Into The Room?

I have a timid, nervous dog.  For awhile I thought that everything “new” just freaked him out.  I know now that I can prevent most of these fears just by understanding a little more about why.

If your pup has ever slipped on tiled or hardwood flooring, he’s going to remember.  That fear will keep him from entering that room the next time.

Does your dog refuse to enter the room?

Chances are, it’s just the flooring.

1.  Keep your dog’s nails clipped/trimmed.

If his nail’s aren’t getting filed down naturally (by concrete, dirt, etc.), get them trimmed.  The pads on the bottom of a dog’s paw maintain a natural “grip” on slick surfaces.  When your dog’s nails are too long, it’s like the poor pooch is walking around on stilettos!

2.  Put down some throw rugs.

Make sure that they have a rubber backing or you can use a non-slip pad under them to prevent them from sliding around.

Once you dog’s nails are trimmed and the throw rug is down, gently (but firmly) guide him into the room.  He’ll see that there is no reason to be afraid and you can move on to his next  “issue”.
